Pride in Dallas 2026 Country Dance Competition

Join us for the Pride in Dallas Country Dance Competition, presented by Dallas Does Dance and sponsored by The Round-Up Saloon and Dance Hall, on Thursday, September 17, 2026 starting at 8:00 PM Central.

100% of the competition registration fees you pay are donated directly to Pride in Dallas (a nonprofit charity). Dance for fun, dance for pride, dance like you have nothing to loose - because you don't!

This event embodies our mission to build a friendly, inviting, and safe environment for the Dallas LGBTQ+ dance community and its allies to share in the joy of dance. Whether you're competing or cheering from the sidelines, join us for a vibrant night of community and entertainment. Please note that all participants and spectators must be 21+ to enter the venue.

This year we have three divisions! 2 for partner dance and 1 for line dance, see the details below.

To ensure everyone is prepared, all songs and official choreography will be provided when online registration opens on September 3, 2025. Registration is $5 per individual dancer, per event, and can be completed online on our site, or in person on the day of the event from 7:00 PM to 7:45 PM.

Prizes

Two Step Novice

  • First Place Couple: Each dancer (2) will receive $150, a VIP Pride Pass, a Buckle, and get to ride in the Parade
  • Runner Up Couple: Each dancer (2) will receive $100, and a VIP Pride Pass

Line Dance

  • First Place: One (1) dancer will receive will receive $150, a VIP Pride Pass, a Buckle, and get to ride in the Parade
  • Runner Up: One (1) dancer will receive $100, and a VIP Pride Pass

Just Dance WCS Novice

  • This is a just-for-fun division with no prizes - that means there are zero stakes and nothing to loose so give it a shot!

Partner Dance

Two divisions

  • Two Step Novice
  • Just Dance West Coast Swing Novice

Special Rules

  • Two Step Novice is scored and eligible for prizes
  • Just Dance WCS is a just for fun, no-stakes/no-prize division
  • Dancers will sign up as a couple for Two Step Novice
  • Dancers will sign up as either a couple or solo for Just Dance WCS (we’ll pair up the solos)
  • A dancer can compete in one or both Partner Dance divisions, such that they meet the criteria (outlined in rules below)
  • The songs will be selected by the event coordinators and announced when registration opens
  • Each couple will dance to the same two (2) songs, dancing to two (2) minutes of each song
  • No lifts or aerials in any division (see Definitions)
  • Cannot use more than one (1) drop

Details

  • Max Dancers: 20 individuals across all divisions
  • Heats: Max 5 couples per heat - heats will be divided evenly
  • Two Step’s basic timing is QQSS (1&2 3)
  • West Coast Swing’s basic timing is 1 2 3&4 5&6 and 1 2 3&4 5 6 7&8.

Line Dance

One Division, Two Phases

  • Phase 1 - Qualifier Line Dances (2x) (Improver/Intermediate)
  • Phase 2 - Finals Line Dance (Intermediate+)

Special Rules

  • Dancers will sign up individually
  • Two (2) line dances in the qualifiers round and one (1) line dance in the finals round - all dances must be performed to qualify for prizes
  • The songs will be selected by the event coordinators and announced when registration opens - every dancer will dance to the full length of the selected song
  • The designated step sheet and video will be provided with the song during registration to ensure everyone is doing the same version

Details

  • Max Dancers: 45 individuals across all divisions
  • Heats: Max 15 individuals per heat (3 rows of 5 dancers) - heats will be divided evenly
  • Step Sheet: The designated step sheets and video demos will be provided on the online registration page at the opening of registration (see rules below)

For Phase 2 - Finals Round

  • Max Dancers: At the judges’ discretion, no more than a full heat of 15 individuals
  • Heats: One (1) heat composed of the highest scoring individuals from prior round
  • Step Sheet: The designated step sheet and video demo will be provided on the online registration page at the opening of registration (see rules below)
  • Two Step Novice

    Dance Style: Two Step

    Level: Novice

     

    For beginner and novice dancers (see rules). Dancers sign up as a couple. Each couple will dance to two (2) minutes of two (2) songs (selected prior to the event and announced at the opening of registration).

  • Just Dance WCS Novice

    Dance Style: West Coast Swing

    Level: Novice

     

    A just-for-fun and no-stakes/no-prizes division for beginner and novice dancers (see rules) to practice competing in West Coast Swing. Dancers sign up either as a couple or solo, and we’ll pair the solo dancers together based on preferred roles. This is not a random partner division. Each couple will dance to two (2) minutes of two (2) songs (selected prior to the event and announced at the opening of registration).

  • Improver+ Line Dance

    Dance Style: Line Dance

    Level: Improver - Intermediate

     

    This line dance event has one division with two phases: Qualifier and Finals. Everyone registers for the Qualifier, and the top-scoring dancers will be selected by the judges to move to the Finals.

    The qualifier phase will have 2 line dances and the finals phase will have 1 line dance.

    The selected line dances for the Qualifier phase will be around "Improver" level, and the one selected for the Finals phase will be "Intermediate+" level (see rules).
